About the role

We are looking for one (full-time) or two (part-time) British English linguists contractors to provide recording supervision and recording quality assurance to achieve high quality output.
You will be working remotely for 2 months from any location in the UK (between 8am and 5pm) for up to full time (40 hours/week). You will be monitoring the recording process of British English TTS (text-to-speech) voices. You will work alongside voice talents, linguists, and IT and Telecommunication Engineers.

You will:

The job can be divided into 2 roles, which may or may not be filled by the same person:

• As a Recording Supervisor for British English, you will be in charge of assisting our voice talent with correct pronunciation (phonemes and prosody) according to our guidelines. A Recording Supervisor will, when necessary, suggest various ways of reading sentences and advise on accent, and, of course, provide quality assurance so there are no errors or noises in the audio recordings

• As a Recordings Quality Controller, you will review and quality check the audio files delivered by our voice talent to ensure the highest quality output. Tasks will include ensuring the following: the script was followed meticulously, pronunciation is clear and correct according to our guidelines, there are no noticeable mouth or background noises,

Both roles will require ensuring the use of standard southern British English (RP-like accent) and correct pronunciation considering phonemic as well as prosodic characteristics such as intonation, pitch, speed, pauses and breaks, phonotactic restrictions and phonological rules etc.) The linguists will help improve our guidelines for the recording of a TTS database. The Linguists will consult a pronunciation dictionary that uses X-SAMPA script to transcribe phonemes for British English and may be required to update it as necessary.

Skills and experience

– Native speaker of Southern British English
– Excellent oral and written communication skills
– Degree in Linguistics, preferably with a focus on Phonetics/Phonology
– Highly familiar with phonetic transcriptions
– Good organizational skills and attention to detail
– Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts
– Stable internet connection with 16mbps download speed

Rate and conditions

• 16 GBP per hour (approx. 330 hours total work for a full-time position)
• Working hours: between 8am and 5pm
• 100% remote job from the UK
